Late Summer Visitors Guide: Evansville & Newburgh
If you’re heading to Evansville or Newburgh in the back half of July or through August, this is a genuinely good stretch to be here. The weather is heavy but the calendar is full: two of the year’s biggest concerts land at the Ford Center, Volksfest takes over the north side of Evansville for three days, and the weekly downtown markets keep running through Labor Day.
We host short-term rentals in both cities and we get the same question a lot in the summer — what’s actually going on this week? Here’s a fact-checked rundown of what’s on the calendar from mid-July through August 31, plus honest notes on where to stay depending on which side of the Ohio River you’re planning around.
Ford Center: two big concerts in August
The Ford Center has two arena-scale country shows in August 2026, and both are drawing crowds from across the Tri-State.
Koe Wetzel — Friday, Aug 7, 6:45 PM. The Night Champion World Tour, with Shane Smith and the Saints, Bayker Blankenship, and Logan Jahnke on the bill. This is a Friday night, and downtown fills up fast around it — restaurant reservations in the district are worth booking a week ahead.
Thomas Rhett — Thursday, Aug 20, 7:30 PM. The Soundtrack to Life Tour, with Conner Smith and Emily Ann Roberts opening. Thursday shows tend to be an easier night for parking and dinner reservations than Friday shows.
The Ford Center sits three blocks from our downtown properties on SE 3rd Street. Walk time to the arena is about six minutes. No parking hunt, no post-show traffic.
Weekly downtown Evansville markets
Three recurring markets run through the entire back half of summer. If you’re in town on the right day of the week, they’re worth an hour.
- Franklin Street Bazaar — every Saturday, 9 AM to 2 PM, on the lawn of the Franklin Street Library through Labor Day weekend. Local produce, makers, food trucks, live music at 10 AM. Free yoga class at 9 AM if you’re up for it.
- Market on Main — every Wednesday on the Ford Center Plaza. Produce, artisan food, craft vendors, food trucks. Quieter than Saturday’s Franklin Street crowd.
- Night Market — Friday, July 31, 5 to 8 PM, on Sixth Street between Sycamore and Locust. Downtown Evansville Inc.’s once-a-summer evening market with local businesses, handmade goods, live music, and food. It’s inside Evansville’s DORA (Downtown Outdoor Refreshment Area), so grab a drink from Tiki or Arcademie, get it in a DORA cup, and walk the market with it in hand. Great date night, great family night.
Volksfest — August 13-15
The Germania Männerchor’s 64th Annual Volksfest runs Thursday through Saturday, August 13-15, at 916 N. Fulton Avenue. Six live bands, ten German beers, kraut balls, bratwurst, pig knuckles, and German potato salad. This one has been part of Evansville’s summer since 1962. Locals plan around it.
Parking on the surrounding streets fills up on Friday and Saturday evenings — going Thursday or arriving before 5:30 the other nights is the play.
Haynie’s Corner First Friday
The Haynie’s Corner Arts District hosts First Fridays from May through October — art galleries open late, live music, street vendors, and the district’s restaurants doing their thing. If you’re in town on the first Friday of August, this is the low-key alternative to a Ford Center night. Bokeh Lounge, Belly of the Wolf, and Haynie’s Corner Brewing Co. are all in walking distance of each other within the district.
Newburgh: concerts, ice cream, and Friedman Park
Fifteen minutes east of downtown Evansville, historic Newburgh sits right on the Ohio River. Late summer is one of the best times to walk the downtown corridor.
Rivertown Ice Cream is open — and it’s a legitimately great reason to make the drive. Pair a cone with an unhurried walk through the boutiques along Water and State Streets, then end at the riverfront overlook. It’s the kind of low-key evening that’s hard to plan around anywhere else in the Tri-State.
Concerts at the Allen Family Amphitheater on the Newburgh riverfront keep the summer moving. The lineup rotates — check the amphitheater’s Facebook page the week of your stay for what’s confirmed.
Friedman Park’s own amphitheater and programming are a separate draw. Party in Paradise is on the calendar coming up, plus food truck nights and family events through the end of summer. The park’s Facebook page has the live lineup.
Our RiverTown Retro units on Middle Street sit a short walk from the State Street shops, Rivertown Ice Cream, and the riverfront. For larger groups, Barn in the Burgh is a barndominium that sleeps 12 with room to gather — walking distance to Friedman Park and a short drive to downtown Newburgh.

Bonus: Bluegrass in the Park across the bridge
If you’re in the mood for a road trip, the Bluegrass in the Park Folklife Festival is in Henderson, Kentucky on August 7 and 8 — this is the festival’s 40th anniversary year. Free admission, held at Audubon Mill Park on the Henderson riverfront. It’s about a 15-minute drive south from downtown Evansville over the twin bridges.
Yes, this collides with the Koe Wetzel show on Friday night. If you’re doing both, the drive back from Henderson to downtown Evansville is short enough that a late arrival at the Ford Center is doable.
Where to stay, by neighborhood
We manage eight properties across Evansville and Newburgh. The right one depends on what you’re actually here for.
For Ford Center concerts, Franklin Street, and downtown markets: our building at 310 SE 3rd Street is three blocks from the Ford Center. Book Rooftop Views (Upper Unit) for a group of up to 8, Dr Mitchell’s Pet Hospital — the original pet clinic in Evansville, now a downtown apartment sleeping 4 — for smaller trips, or the Entire Building for larger groups (sleeps 12 total across both units). Walk to the arena, Bru Burger, and the Main Street restaurants. No parking hassle.
For Volksfest or the Franklin Street area: our downtown properties at 310 SE 3rd Street are a short drive away.
For Friedman Park events or a group weekend: Barn in the Burgh is a barndominium that sleeps 12 with room to gather — walking distance to Friedman Park, a short drive to downtown Newburgh. Great for family reunions, group getaways, and daytime gatherings.
For downtown Newburgh (Rivertown Ice Cream, State Street shops, the riverfront): the three RiverTown Retro units on Middle Street — 1990s, 1980s, and 1970s — are a short walk from all of it.

Booking notes
If you’re planning around the Ford Center dates, we’d recommend booking two to three weeks out. Thomas Rhett weekend (Aug 20-22) will be tight — the Thursday show has a Friday and Saturday follow-through as people build weekend trips around it.
